US President Donald Trump said a roughly hour-long phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 3 July produced “no progress at all” toward ending the war in Ukraine. Trump told reporters the discussion, which also covered Iran, left him “not happy” with the state of the conflict. The Kremlin described the conversation as frank and constructive. Presidential aide Yury Ushakov said Moscow would press ahead with its objectives in Ukraine and signalled readiness for further talks, while noting that the two leaders also reviewed prospective economic projects in energy and space. Trump’s frustration has intensified in the days since the call. Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on 8 July, he said he is “not happy with President Putin” and is weighing additional sanctions on Russia, including measures being drafted in the Senate. The White House continues to supply defensive weapons to Kyiv, though some transfers remain under review amid concerns about US stockpiles.
