Apple Inc. is in early discussions with Alphabet Inc.’s Google about licensing the Gemini generative-AI models to power an overhauled version of the Siri voice assistant, according to Bloomberg reporting. The talks would mark a significant shift for Apple, which has so far relied largely on its own technology to run Siri. Google has begun training a Gemini variant that could operate on Apple’s servers, people familiar with the matter said, a move aimed at addressing privacy and performance requirements for the iPhone maker’s devices. While Gemini is the leading option, Apple has also held preliminary conversations with Anthropic and OpenAI and may still deploy some of its own foundation models. No final decision is expected for several weeks, but a licensing agreement could enable a revamped Siri to reach users as soon as 2026. If completed, the deal would expand Google’s AI footprint to potentially billions of Apple devices and underscore the growing importance—and competitive stakes—of generative AI in consumer electronics.

If Apple chooses Google's Gemini to run Siri, it's game over. Gemini would be running AI on all Android and Apple devices around the world. Billions of devices Apple could be using this to get better deal terms from OpenAI who they already have a deal with though. https://t.co/hRk4Ys9fmT
