Samsung on 9 July unveiled the seventh generation of its foldable phones, introducing the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip 7 and a lower-priced Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE at its Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York. The book-style Fold 7 is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest foldable yet, measuring 8.9 millimetres when closed and weighing 215 grams. It pairs a wider 6.5-inch cover screen with an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and adopts a 200-megapixel main camera. Samsung has ditched S-Pen support to achieve the slimmer build. The device starts at US$1,999.99 and carries an IP48 rating, seven years of Android and security updates, and a hinge certified by Bureau Veritas to survive 500,000 folds—twice the rating of earlier models. The Flip 7 features a 4.1-inch edge-to-edge cover display and a 6.9-inch inner screen, runs on Samsung’s 3-nanometre Exynos 2500 chip, and adds a 50-megapixel main camera. It folds to 13.7 millimetres, retains the 200,000-fold durability rating and is priced from US$1,099.99. The new Flip 7 FE trims specifications—smaller cover screen, lower-capacity battery—but enters at US$899.99, giving Samsung its first fan-edition foldable. All three handsets ship with Android 16, One UI 8 and an expanded suite of Galaxy AI and Google Gemini features. Samsung quotes 25-watt wired charging, 15-watt wireless charging and seven years of software support across the line-up. Competition in the foldable segment is intensifying: Honor’s 8.8 mm-thin Magic V5 arrived days before Unpacked, and Samsung executives told reporters the company aims to introduce a tri-fold smartphone before year-end. Early demand for Samsung’s latest models has been brisk; the firm later said US pre-orders rose 25 percent year on year, with Fold 7 bookings up 50 percent compared with the Fold 6.
