Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar embarked on a historic two-day bilateral visit to Bangladesh, marking the first official visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Dhaka in 13 years. The visit included high-level meetings with Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, and political leaders from major parties such as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. Dar also met BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. During the visit, Pakistan and Bangladesh signed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral ties, including an agreement to abolish visa requirements for diplomats and government officials. Pakistan announced the provision of 500 scholarships over five years for Bangladeshi students and training programs for Bangladeshi civil servants. Discussions also covered the promotion of economic and commercial cooperation, direct flights, and shipping links between the two countries. The visit avoided Indian airspace, instead routing through China and Myanmar. Following the Bangladesh visit, Ishaq Dar is scheduled to attend the Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 25 to 26, 2025.
