Armed officers from Kent Police shot a man outside the Park Gate Inn in Hollingbourne at about 21:00 BST on Monday, 7 July. The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a London hospital with injuries that investigators describe as potentially life-changing. The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it opened an independent investigation shortly after the incident and has sent investigators to the scene to gather evidence. Kent Police stated it was responding to an unspecified incident at the pub when a police firearm was discharged. Bomb-disposal specialists and counter-terrorism officers were deployed, and a 100-metre cordon was established around the premises. The A20 Ashford Road was closed in both directions while forensic teams worked through the night. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as the inquiry continues.
