The Salt Lake City Police Department has completed its investigation into last month’s fatal shooting at the June 14 “No Kings” protest and, on 2 July, forwarded the case to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office without recommending any criminal charges. Police say a member of the protest’s volunteer peacekeeping team fired three rounds after confronting 24-year-old Arturo Gamboa, who was seen carrying a rifle. One bullet wounded Gamboa; another struck and killed 39-year-old bystander Arthur (Afa) Ah Loo. Gamboa was arrested on suspicion of murder the night of the rally but was released on 20 June after prosecutors said additional investigative work was needed. District Attorney Sim Gill confirmed that his office is still reviewing evidence and has reached no conclusion on possible charges.
