Police Scotland said it is drawing up security plans for a possible visit by US President Donald Trump later this month, the president’s first trip to the country since taking office. Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond said preparations were under way for what would be a “significant policing operation,” although the White House has yet to confirm the trip. Scottish and UK officials familiar with the discussions expect Trump to spend several days at his family’s resorts—Turnberry in Ayrshire and the new MacLeod course at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire—around the end of July or early August. Security planners estimate that as many as 5,000 officers could be deployed for the visit, echoing the large operation mounted during Trump’s 2018 stop in Scotland. Separately, Buckingham Palace announced that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will make a full state visit to the United Kingdom from 17 to 19 September at the invitation of King Charles III. The couple will be hosted at Windsor Castle because renovation work continues at Buckingham Palace. The three-day programme will mark Trump’s second state visit to Britain—an unusual honour for a foreign leader—and is expected to include a formal welcome ceremony, a state banquet and meetings with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Detailed itineraries for the September visit will be released closer to the date. Reports that Trump would travel to Pakistan on 18 September were withdrawn after Pakistani broadcaster Geo News apologised for airing what it called “unverified” information. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said it had no knowledge of a scheduled presidential visit, and journalists covering US-Pakistan relations noted that any such stop is only being explored for a later trip tied to a planned QUAD summit in the region.
