McDonald’s embraces nostalgia with new McDonaldland Meal. The company is also introducing a limited-edition shake inspired by Mt. McDonaldland https://t.co/g3OmpoMfcs
McDonald’s said it will introduce a “McDonaldland Meal” across U.S. restaurants for a limited run starting Aug. 12. The offering pairs fries and a mystery-flavored Mt. McDonaldland shake with a customer’s choice of a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets. Each meal comes in one of six collectible tins depicting Ronald McDonald, Grimace, Hamburglar and other characters from the fast-food chain’s 1970s fantasy world. The promotion is supported by co-branded merchandise lines with apparel retailer Pacsun, available the same day the meal debuts, and luggage maker Away, which will distribute themed bag charms and tags beginning Aug. 18 while supplies last. McDonald’s is leaning further into nostalgia marketing—a strategy that produced strong traffic gains with 2023’s Grimace Shake—as it works to reignite demand after reporting a 3.6% drop in comparable U.S. sales last quarter. Investors will get another look at the results when the company posts second-quarter earnings on Wednesday.
