On July 3, 2025, the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 1306 led a formation patrolling the territorial waters of Diaoyu Dao, also known as the Senkaku Islands, to safeguard China's maritime rights in accordance with Chinese law. This patrol is part of ongoing efforts by Chinese authorities to reinforce control and sovereignty over disputed areas in the East and South China Seas. Concurrently, the People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command conducted combat readiness patrols around Huangyan Dao (Scarborough Shoal), enhancing maritime and airspace control in the region. Meanwhile, four Chinese Coast Guard ships, equipped with machine guns, entered the territorial waters near the Senkaku Islands on July 3, marking the 17th day this year of Chinese vessels intruding into Japanese-claimed waters. Japanese authorities issued warnings to the Chinese vessels to keep away from the territorial waters. These activities reflect a pattern of increased Chinese maritime operations following China's delimitation and announcement of territorial sea baselines around Huangyan Dao, with experts noting that rights protection and situation control operations in the South China Sea have become more targeted and refined.
