Detectives with the Chino Police Department recovered roughly $30,000 worth of Labubu collectible dolls after executing a search warrant at a residence in Upland, California, on 12 August. Officers seized 14 boxes of merchandise and evidence suggesting the toys were about to be resold and shipped nationwide. One suspect briefly fled but surrendered without incident, and the items have been returned to their owner, police said. Investigators believe the dolls were taken in several trips from a warehouse in Chino over recent days. The bust comes less than a week after a separate burglary in which four masked thieves used a stolen Toyota Tacoma to smash into One Stop Sales in La Puente, about 30 km east of Los Angeles, and steal roughly $7,000 in Labubu inventory, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. That case remains open. Labubu dolls—created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and distributed by Chinese retailer Pop Mart—have become a global fad, with standard “blind-box” figures retailing for about $28 and limited editions fetching hundreds of dollars online. Police say the toys’ soaring resale value is fueling a string of targeted thefts across Southern California.
