A drive-by shooting outside the Artis Lounge nightclub in Chicago’s River North district killed four people and wounded 14 others late Wednesday, according to the Chicago Police Department. Investigators said a dark-colored SUV pulled up at about 11 p.m. and at least three occupants opened fire on a crowd leaving an album-release party for local rapper Mello Buckzz before speeding away. The dead include two men, aged 24 and 25, and two women. The injured, ranging from 21 to 32 years old, were transported to several hospitals; at least three remain in critical condition. Police have not made any arrests and have appealed for the public’s help in identifying the assailants. Wednesday’s assault is the second mass shooting on the same block since 2022, when the venue operated under a different name. While murders city-wide have fallen 32 percent this year through June 29, the incident underscores the persistent challenge Chicago faces in curbing gun violence.
