Federal and state authorities have intensified the search for Benjamin Hanil Song, the last suspect still at large after an Independence Day ambush outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. The FBI issued a Blue Alert on 10 July and is offering a $25,000 reward, while Texas Crime Stoppers has added $10,000, bringing the total incentive for information leading to Song’s arrest to $35,000. Investigators say Song, 32, a former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, was part of a group that lured law-enforcement officers into the open with fireworks and graffiti before opening fire just after 10:30 p.m. on 4 July. An Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck but later released from hospital. Ten alleged accomplices were arrested at the scene, and an eleventh was later detained on evidence-tampering charges. Song is the twelfth suspect and the only one still wanted. A federal warrant accuses Song of attempted murder of a federal officer and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. Johnson County has additionally charged him with aiding terrorism, aggravated assault on a public servant, and engaging in organized crime. He has been placed on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted list and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities describe him as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and ties to Dallas and Addison. The FBI urges anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online.
