Social-media personality Brian “Liver King” Johnson was arrested late Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Austin and charged with making a terroristic threat after authorities said he posted a series of videos threatening podcast host Joe Rogan. Austin police said detectives reviewed Johnson’s Instagram posts, which showed the influencer driving from his home in Willis, Texas, to Rogan’s adopted hometown while repeatedly challenging the comedian to a fight and brandishing what appeared to be gold-plated rifles. Rogan, who told investigators he had never interacted with Johnson, said he considered the messages threatening. Johnson, 47, was booked into the Travis County jail on a single Class B misdemeanor count of terroristic threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury. A probable-cause affidavit cited concerns that the influencer was experiencing a mental-health episode and could pose a danger to himself or others. He was released Wednesday after posting a $20,000 bond. Under the conditions set by a county judge, Johnson must stay at least 200 yards from Rogan and his family, wear a GPS ankle monitor, surrender any firearms and complete a mental-health evaluation within seven days. His next hearing is scheduled for July 16. Johnson built an online following of millions by promoting an “ancestral” raw-meat diet and was recently profiled in a Netflix documentary. Rogan has publicly criticized the influencer for admitting to extensive steroid use after first denying it—a feud that police say preceded the threats.
