Salt Lake City Police are investigating a predawn shooting that left an adult man in critical condition near 230 South 600 West. Officers were called at about 4:52 a.m. on 4 July and found the victim had already been taken to hospital by private transport. Investigators believe the gunman fled immediately after the attack, and the department said there is no ongoing threat to the public while it pursues leads. Anyone with information has been asked to contact detectives at 801-799-3000. The incident follows a separate shooting in neighboring West Valley City two days earlier, when a 14-year-old boy was wounded in the shoulder outside 1510 West Parliament Avenue. Police said occupants of a white four-door vehicle addressed the teenager by name before opening fire around 12:50 p.m. on 2 July. Authorities have not indicated whether the two cases are connected but continue to search for the suspects in both attacks.
