Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that occurred within minutes of each other early Friday, July 5, in Northeast D.C. An adult female was found in the 2000 block of Benning Road NE and taken to hospital with life-threatening wounds, the department said. Roughly five minutes later, officers responded to the 3500 block of Hayes Street NE, where they found an adult male who was conscious and breathing after being shot. Police said no usable suspect descriptions were available for either incident and urged anyone with information to call the city’s tip line at 202-727-9099 or text 50411. The overnight attacks follow a separate July 4 shooting in Southeast Washington in which a man was found with gunshot wounds, underscoring a spate of holiday-week violence across the District.
