Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Jammu and Kashmir on August 24 to assess the situation following a cloudburst in Kishtwar that caused flooding and landslides. He met with injured individuals at the Government Hospital in Jammu, accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh. Due to bad weather and landslides, Singh was unable to visit the affected site directly but held a virtual meeting with officials to review the flood situation. In Uttarakhand, a cloudburst on August 23 caused widespread destruction in Tharali, Chamoli district, with ongoing search and clearance operations. Additional cloudbursts in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts on August 28 and 29 resulted in families being trapped under debris, missing persons, and damage to infrastructure including roads and highways. Relief efforts are underway, with local authorities and disaster response teams actively engaged. In Jammu and Kashmir, a landslide near the Vaishno Devi temple resulted in over 30 fatalities and multiple injuries, with 14 patients receiving treatment at SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Katra. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the hospital to check on the injured and urged doctors to provide the best care. Restoration work is ongoing on the Chandigarh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh after a landslide, and the Indian Army has started constructing a Bailey Bridge over the River Tawi in Jammu after part of it was washed away by swollen river waters. Continuous heavy rainfall has caused rivers such as the Alaknanda and Mandakini in Uttarakhand to rise to dangerous levels, prompting authorities to advise residents living near riverbanks to relocate to safer areas. The Badrinath highway between Srinagar and Rudraprayag has been submerged, blocking traffic. Schools in Kashmir division reopened after a two-day closure due to flood warnings. Local officials and disaster management teams continue to coordinate rescue and relief operations across affected regions.
