Heavy rains in the Himalayan region have caused severe flooding and landslides in northern India and Pakistan, resulting in at least 36 deaths and widespread displacement. In Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, a landslide triggered by torrential rains killed between 30 and 36 people, with several others reported missing. The disaster occurred primarily at the Ardhkuwari stretch, a key part of the Hindu pilgrimage route, leading to the suspension of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra for multiple days. Devotees stranded in the area reported difficulties in returning home due to canceled trains and blocked roads. In neighboring Pakistan's Punjab province, floods caused by heavy rainfall and the release of water from overflowing dams in India have displaced nearly 250,000 people and affected approximately 1.2 million. The floods have also resulted in at least 15 deaths in Pakistan. Authorities in both countries continue rescue operations amid ongoing heavy rains and flood alerts on three rivers in Pakistan.
