Severe flooding and heavy rainfall have caused widespread displacement and damage across parts of South Asia, particularly in eastern Pakistan and northern India. In Pakistan, nearly 250,000 people have been displaced and 1.2 million affected as the worst floods in decades hit the farming belt, prompting evacuation efforts involving up to one million residents. In India, the northern state of Uttarakhand has experienced multiple cloudbursts in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts, resulting in trapped families, buried livestock, and blocked roads. Rescue operations are ongoing with efforts by local authorities and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to evacuate stranded individuals. The Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers have risen to dangerous levels, leading to road closures including the complete submersion of the Badrinath highway. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan have directed relief and rescue operations. The Met Department has issued a red alert for Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun, and Bageshwar districts. In Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rainfall and flash floods have damaged infrastructure, including a portion of the fourth bridge on the River Tawi, with the Indian Army commencing reconstruction. Other states such as Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Punjab are also experiencing heavy rains, waterlogging, and flood warnings, with authorities engaged in relief and rescue operations. In Delhi-NCR, the Yamuna river is flowing near the danger mark, causing severe waterlogging in areas like Patparganj. Floodgates at Sukhna Lake Dam in Chandigarh were opened to release excess water. The ongoing rains have prompted advisories for residents living near riverbanks to relocate to safer areas.
