Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Tarvinder Singh Marwah has asked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order the temporary closure of meat shops situated along the routes earmarked for the forthcoming Kanwar Yatra, a large annual Shiva pilgrimage that will pass through the capital later this month. In his letter, Marwah cited what he described as a "70–80%" shutdown of similar outlets during the recent Navratri festival, calling that effort a “great success” and arguing that a repeat measure would help maintain religious sanctity and public order during the yatra. The state government has not yet issued a formal response.
