Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed readiness to recommend the dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly if statehood is restored to the Union Territory. Abdullah emphasized that fresh Assembly elections should be held as part of the process, stating that he is not concerned about retaining his position. He has called for the conclusion of discussions on restoring statehood soon to fulfill the long-standing demand of the people. Abdullah also thanked Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi for raising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Congress has urged the government to introduce legislation to grant full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and to include the Union Territory of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. In addition to his political statements, Abdullah inaugurated 13 projects at the National Hospital in Jammu, highlighting efforts to reduce the burden on government hospitals. He attended the Valedictory Session of the Summer School 2025 at the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu as the Chief Guest. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has leveled serious allegations against Abdullah, accusing him of openly violating the law.
