Eight people were killed and three others were seriously injured on Monday morning when a jeep carrying 13 passengers plunged into a deep gorge off the Thal-Pithoragarh road near the Suni bridge in the Muwani area of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Rekha Yadav. Police, revenue officials and State Disaster Response Force teams reached the remote site with local residents assisting in pulling survivors from the wreckage and moving them to a nearby government hospital. Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle while travelling from Muwani to Bokta village. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences and directed district authorities to ensure medical treatment for the injured and a prompt investigation into the accident.
