Violence broke out on 8 July in Dhubri district of Assam when a mob confronted security personnel overseeing a state-government eviction drive aimed at removing alleged encroachments. According to local media video footage, stone-throwing crowds attacked police and other forces as bulldozers moved in to clear the land. Additional police units were deployed to disperse the protesters and restore order. Authorities had not immediately provided details of injuries or arrests by the time of publication. The eviction operation is part of a broader campaign by the Assam government to reclaim public land it says has been illegally occupied.
