A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Poso region in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, early on August 17, 2025, injuring dozens of people and causing one fatality. Initial reports indicated 29 injured, but the number of injured rose to 41, with two individuals in critical condition. The quake caused damage to 45 houses. Following the main tremor, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 57 aftershocks in the Poso area through August 18. Additionally, a separate magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit Bitung in North Sulawesi on August 18. Other incidents reported in Sulawesi include a fire in a densely populated area of Makassar, South Sulawesi, and a traffic accident in Pasuruan, East Java.
