Japanese authorities have arrested multiple educators across several prefectures on charges related to the illicit photographing and sharing of indecent images of minors. In Aichi Prefecture, two elementary school teachers from Nagoya and Yokohama were detained for allegedly taking and distributing approximately 70 images and videos of female students' underwear via a private social media group chat that included about 10 teachers from elementary and junior high schools nationwide. One of the accused, Yuji Moriyama, 42, a senior teacher responsible for school communications and event photography, admitted to using a school digital camera to capture the images, some reportedly taken during school events and outings. The incident has prompted Nagoya officials to initiate a panel to investigate potential similar cases and conduct a survey of 12,000 public school teachers. Meanwhile, in Hiroshima, a 38-year-old elementary school teacher was arrested on suspicion of attempting indecent acts by confining a female student in an empty classroom and exposing himself. In Fukuoka, a 34-year-old high school teacher was detained for allegedly secretly filming female students changing clothes after club activities. Additional arrests include a 45-year-old middle and high school teacher in Tokyo accused of giving money to female high school students for lewd acts, a 40-year-old man in Tokyo arrested for repeatedly filming boys in a public bathhouse over the past decade, and a university staff member in Tokyo suspected of possessing illicit videos of male students. These cases have sparked widespread concern among parents, educators, and local authorities, leading to school cancellations of certain activities and calls for transparency and accountability within the education system.
