A Nairobi court has ordered former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba to pay Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye 10.5 million Kenyan shillings in damages for defamation. The court found that Orwoba maliciously defamed Nyegenye through social media posts in which she accused him of sexual harassment. In addition to the monetary damages, Orwoba has been ordered to issue a public apology to Nyegenye within 30 days. Orwoba has announced her intention to appeal the ruling, claiming that she is being punished for rejecting sexual advances. Jeremiah Nyegenye serves as the Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission.
