Kenyan President William Ruto has established a multi-agency team on the war against corruption (MAT) to intensify efforts against graft. The team comprises ten agencies, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), National Intelligence Service (NIS), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Anti-Corruption Authority (ARA), Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), and the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC). The Executive Office of the President chairs the team. This move follows President Ruto's accusations of extortion and bribery involving members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators. The EACC has launched investigations targeting specific MPs and governors, with five sitting governors and twelve MPs under probe. The EACC has recommended prosecution of three sitting governors—Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), Mohammed Ali (Marsabit), and Hillary Barchok (Bomet)—and one former county official. The commission is pursuing cases worth over Ksh.1.6 billion involving 822 county officials and has completed 89 high-profile investigations. However, the multi-agency team faced legal challenges when four activists petitioned the High Court, claiming the team's creation is unconstitutional and usurps the functions of the EACC. Consequently, the High Court suspended the operations of the team pending the hearing and determination of the case. Meanwhile, MPs have demanded that President Ruto appear before Parliament to provide evidence supporting his graft allegations. They have also threatened to impeach the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi if the President fails to substantiate his claims. The National Assembly leadership has dismissed Ruto's remarks as mere allegations. Church leaders have called on the President to take decisive action by naming and prosecuting legislators involved in bribery, urging an end to blame games and rhetoric in the anti-corruption campaign.
