The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned what it called “repeated Israeli attacks” on Syrian and Lebanese territory, describing the strikes as a blatant violation of the two countries’ sovereignty and a breach of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. Cairo warned that the continued raids risk heightening regional tensions and undermining ongoing diplomacy—efforts in which Egypt says it is actively engaged—to restore stability in the Middle East. The ministry reiterated its rejection of interference in the internal affairs of Syria and Lebanon and called for full respect of their unity and territorial integrity. Israel’s latest sorties included airstrikes on Syria’s southern Suwayda governorate and Daraa earlier this week, as well as a raid on the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek that killed at least 12 people and wounded eight, according to local authorities. Lebanese officials report that Israel has carried out nearly 3,000 violations of a November cease-fire with Hezbollah, resulting in at least 236 deaths and more than 540 injuries.
