Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada said Wednesday that security forces have arrested 13 people suspected of participating in the 20 May shootings that killed her personal secretary, Ximena Guzmán Cuevas, and senior adviser José Muñoz Vega on Calzada de Tlalpan. Three of the detainees are accused of carrying out the attack, while the rest allegedly provided logistical support. The detentions followed 11 pre-dawn raids across the capital’s Gustavo A. Madero and Xochimilco districts and the neighbouring State of Mexico municipalities of Otumba and Coacalco. The operation involved federal troops, the Navy, the National Guard and local police, and was coordinated by Security and Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch, Mexico City prosecutor Bertha Alcalde Luján and city security chief Pablo Vázquez Camacho. Investigators said at least five vehicles and a motorcycle were used to surveil the victims, execute the shooting and facilitate the escape, underscoring what authorities described as a meticulously planned crime. They also revealed that the killers had considered striking on 14 May but aborted the attempt. The suspected gunman who fired the shots remains at large, and officials said several lines of inquiry are open to determine who ordered the attack and why.
