Ana Amelí García Gámez, a 19-year-old biology student at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), has been missing since July 12, 2025, after ascending Pico del Águila in the Ajusco area of Mexico City. Authorities including the Mexico City Attorney General's Office, the Search Commission, and the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City have been conducting coordinated search operations in the forested mountainous region of Ajusco, particularly around Pico del Águila in the Tlalpan borough. The Rescue Brigade of the Mexican Alpine Rescue Service has also been involved in the search efforts, though no results have been reported so far. Family members, friends, feminist groups, and search collectives have organized search days and vigils, including one at the Monument to the Revolution, to raise awareness and demand action. Vanessa Gámez, Ana Amelí's mother, has appealed directly to Mexico City's President Claudia Sheinbaum at Palacio Nacional for assistance, expressing concern that her daughter may no longer be in the area and suggesting she might be held by someone. The search continues amid growing urgency as more than a week has passed since Ana Amelí's disappearance.
