Teresa Guadalupe Reyes Sahagún has resigned as the head of Mexico's Comisión Nacional de Búsqueda (CNB), with her tenure officially ending on August 31, 2025, according to the Secretaría de Gobernación (Segob). Reyes led the CNB for one year and ten months, during which she faced criticism from families of disappeared persons and various NGOs over her lack of experience in investigations and searches. Her resignation comes amid an ongoing crisis of disappearances in Mexico and marks the second leadership change at the CNB within two years. President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged Reyes's resignation as a personal decision, praising her sensitivity, conviction, and honesty, and confirmed that Reyes will continue to support the government in other capacities. Segob announced it will conduct a public consultation to select a new commissioner for the CNB, aiming for a transparent and open process. The appointment of Reyes's successor will be presented to the Senate once the best candidate is identified.
