Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a Financial Times op-ed says progress in talks between Iran and the United States has been sabotaged, not by Iran, but by one of America’s apparent allies. https://t.co/1AjOuE3rhC
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a Financial Times opinion article that the recent war waged by Israel has derailed the diplomatic momentum that had been building between Tehran and Washington. He argued that progress in indirect talks was “sabotaged, not by Iran, but by an ostensible ally of America,” a formulation widely read as a reference to Israel. Araghchi maintained that Iran remains open to renewed engagement with the United States, provided discussions focus on terminating U.S. economic sanctions and broadening bilateral economic cooperation. Reviving diplomacy, he wrote, would help stabilise the region and stimulate Iran’s economy, but Tehran is now “doubly cautious” after previous setbacks. The minister’s article effectively places responsibility on Washington to restart negotiations and curb actions by its partners that, in Tehran’s view, jeopardise the chances of a larger agreement.
