The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet said on Sunday they killed Ramzi Ramadan Abd Ali Saleh, commander of Hamas’s naval force in northern Gaza, in an airstrike in Gaza City. The joint statement described Saleh as a central source of operational knowledge within Hamas and the architect of recent plans to launch maritime attacks against Israeli troops. According to the security agencies, the precision strike was carried out by an Israeli Air Force fighter jet using intelligence provided by the navy, military intelligence and Shin Bet operatives. The agencies said measures were taken to limit civilian casualties. Two other Hamas operatives, identified as mortar deputy chief Hisham Ayman Atiya Mansour and fighter Nissim Muhammad Suleiman Abu Sabha, were also killed in the same operation. Israel said the elimination of the trio is intended to degrade Hamas’s capability to conduct sea-borne assaults. The strike comes as Israeli negotiators travel to Qatar for renewed talks on a potential Gaza cease-fire and the release of hostages, underscoring the continuing volatility of the conflict even amid diplomatic efforts.
