Palestinian civil-defense officials said an Israeli air strike late on 14 July flattened the Arafat family home near the Al-Furqan Mosque in the Al-Zarqa district of Jabalia, northern Gaza, trapping the occupants beneath the debris. Footage circulated from under the rubble showed a woman identified as Hala moving her hand and pleading for help. Rescue crews estimated that about 15 members of the family, many of them children, were alive immediately after the blast. Civil-defense teams and eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces blocked ambulances and emergency workers from reaching the site for several hours, delaying efforts to extract survivors. By the afternoon of 15 July at least six bodies—including Hala, her husband and four of their children—had been pulled from the ruins, while searches continued for others still missing. Separate strikes on the Al-Shati Refugee Camp were also reported the same day, highlighting the growing civilian toll of the latest round of fighting in the Gaza Strip.
