President Donald Trump said the United States will establish unfenced food-distribution centres in Gaza, citing “real starvation” in the enclave and urging Israel to improve humanitarian access. The comments marked a rare public divergence from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who maintains that no famine exists. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee will visit Gaza on Friday after meeting Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The pair will inspect aid sites, including one in Rafah, and submit a plan to scale up deliveries. Washington has already allocated $60 million for food assistance but says results on the ground remain limited, as nearly 100 people were reportedly killed this week while seeking aid. Trump added that Witkoff will travel to Moscow following the Israel trip. The President has given Russia until 8 August to halt its offensive in Ukraine and said he intends to impose new sanctions if the deadline is missed, while conceding he is unsure the measures will alter President Vladimir Putin’s calculus.
