Carlos Mendoza wouldn’t expound on Jose Butto’s illness, but said it’s not too serious and he is expected back right after the All-Star break.
The Mets will not reveal details of Buttó's illness out of respect for his privacy, per Carlos Mendoza, but the team expects him back shortly after the All-Star Break. It's not a major thing. https://t.co/tuSFfoDmK3
The New York Mets placed right-hander José Buttó on the 15-day injured list Friday because of an undisclosed illness. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the condition is not considered serious and the club expects the 27-year-old to be available shortly after the All-Star break. Reliever Chris Devenski was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster spot ahead of the opening game of a three-game Subway Series at Citi Field. Buttó has been one of the Mets’ more reliable bullpen pieces this season, posting a 2–1 record with a 2.47 ERA over 43⅔ innings in 31 appearances. His absence adds to a growing list of pitching setbacks for New York. Reliever Dedniel Núñez was also moved to the IL on Friday and may require Tommy John surgery, while starter Paul Blackburn remains sidelined with a shoulder impingement, prompting the club to turn to Justin Hagenman for a spot start.
