Dave Bautista is in final negotiations to portray the immortal antagonist known as the Kurgan in Amazon MGM’s feature-length remake of the 1986 cult classic “Highlander,” according to multiple industry reports. He would star opposite Henry Cavill, who has been attached since 2021 to play Connor MacLeod, the titular Scottish swordsman. The film is being directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for the “John Wick” franchise, and is scheduled to begin principal photography at the end of September, with shoots planned in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. Russell Crowe will take on the role of Ramirez, while Marisa Abela rounds out the current main cast. Bautista had previously circled the Kurgan role in an earlier iteration of the project in 2015 that stalled. His expected casting extends a growing relationship with Amazon; he recently headlined the studio’s action-comedy “My Spy” and its sequel and is in post-production on “The Wrecking Crew.”
