Netflix has tapped Cameron Diaz to lead "Bad Day," an original action comedy that will begin shooting this fall in New York and New Jersey. The project extends Diaz’s comeback after a near-decade hiatus that ended earlier this year with the streamer’s hit spy caper "Back in Action," which has amassed 5.26 billion minutes of viewing and ranks sixth on Netflix’s all-time most-watched movie list, according to Nielsen. Directed by "Jury Duty" creator Jake Szymanski and written by Laura Solon, "Bad Day" follows a single mother determined to keep a promise to her daughter during the worst day of her life. The script is pitched as a comedic, female-led riff on the 1993 Michael Douglas drama "Falling Down." Beau Bauman’s Good One Productions is producing, with Solon also serving as executive producer. Netflix is fast-tracking the film as part of its strategy to pair proven stars with mid-budget genre titles.
