Eva Longoria will direct and produce a feature adaptation of Xochitl Gonzalez’s bestselling novel “Anita de Monte Laughs Last” for Searchlight Pictures, the studio said on 14 July. Gonzalez is writing the screenplay based on her 2024 book about a first-generation Ivy League student who unearthed the long-overlooked work of a female artist who died under suspicious circumstances. The project reunites Longoria with Searchlight after her 2023 directorial debut “Flamin’ Hot.” Production will run through Hyphenate Media Group, the company Longoria founded with Cris Abrego, alongside producer Jada Miranda. Searchlight executives Taylor Friedman and Daniel Yu will oversee development.
