The San Francisco 49ers have acquired wide receiver Skyy Moore from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a swap of sixth- and seventh-round draft picks, adding a player who will count $1.5 million against the 2025 salary cap in the final year of his rookie deal. Head coach Kyle Shanahan turned to the trade market after four of the club’s top receivers—Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Jauan Jennings (calf/contract), Jacob Cowing (hamstring) and Jordan Watkins (ankle)—were sidelined and free-agent addition Demarcus Robinson drew a three-game suspension. Moore, 24, brings sub-4.4 speed and punt-return experience that the coaching staff believes can offset the shortage at the position and bolster special teams. San Francisco also reshuffled other positions: the team re-signed quarterback Nate Sudfeld as insurance while Mac Jones nurses an undisclosed issue, placed running back Patrick Taylor Jr. on season-ending injured reserve with a dislocated shoulder, and waived/injured rookie back Corey Kiner, who will revert to IR if unclaimed. To strengthen depth on the offensive line and at receiver, the 49ers signed veteran guard Michael Dunn and wideout Malik Knowles. The roster moves come ahead of Saturday’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, after which clubs must trim to the 53-man limit. Shanahan said starting quarterback Brock Purdy is not expected to play, underscoring the importance of the added depth as the injury-hit team navigates the final week of camp.
John Lynch might make the argument that he profited off the Skyy Moore trade. Brock Purdy Jauan Jennings 49ers pick better in the 7th than the 6th 😂
There are now 2 slots for return designations that don’t have to count against the 53. Givens and Puni have been the obvious top candidates for these designations. It was never going to be a rookie like Kiner https://t.co/gcuFXGuzkI
Do players like Kevin Givens need to be on the initial 53 man roster, before being moved to IR, in order to be eligible to return? Or can they now be placed on IR designated to return without taking up a spot on the initial 53? Always thought was a weird quirk in the rules.
