NASCAR rookie Connor Zilisch suffered a broken collarbone after slipping off the roof of his JR Motorsports No. 88 Chevrolet while celebrating his Xfinity Series victory at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, 9 August. Video of the accident showed the 19-year-old losing his footing and landing head-first on the pavement in Victory Lane. He was immobilised on a backboard and transported by ambulance first to the track’s infield care centre and then to a local hospital. Zilisch said later on social media that CT scans cleared him of head trauma and confirmed only the collarbone fracture. NASCAR and JR Motorsports added that the driver was “awake and alert” throughout treatment. The win was Zilisch’s sixth of the season, extending his lead in the Xfinity Series standings. The injury forced Trackhouse Racing to withdraw its No. 87 Chevrolet from Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen Cup race, where Zilisch had been scheduled to make a rare start. The series is idle next weekend, giving the teenager additional recovery time before the Xfinity calendar resumes on 22 August at Daytona. Team officials have not indicated how many races he may miss, but Zilisch remains locked into the playoffs and is expected to return once medically cleared.
