Russia’s Defense Ministry alleged on Tuesday that the Ukrainian government is preparing a false-flag attack aimed at derailing a forthcoming meeting between President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump scheduled to take place in Alaska. According to the ministry’s statement, Ukrainian forces intend to launch drone and missile strikes on a hospital or other crowded location in the city of Chuguev in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, then accuse Russia of the assault. The ministry also claimed that Ukraine’s security services are transporting international journalists to the area to film the aftermath as part of what it called a staged propaganda effort. The allegations were released without supporting evidence, and Kyiv had not immediately responded to the claims. Independent verification of the Russian assertions was not available at press time.
