A Chinese journalist working for Phoenix Television was wounded on 26 June when a drone struck the border settlement of Korenevo in Russia’s Kursk region, according to Russian officials who blamed the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the attack. Acting regional governor Alexander Khinshtein said the reporter, 63-year-old Lu Yuguang, suffered a head injury that was at first described as an open traumatic brain wound but later assessed as non-life-threatening. Lu was preparing a feature on civilian life in the area and was wearing a vest marked “PRESS.” He has been taken to a regional hospital for treatment. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the incident as a deliberate attempt to intimidate journalists and urged UNESCO, the UN human-rights commissioner and the OSCE’s media-freedom representative to investigate. Ukraine had not commented publicly on the strike at the time of publication. The Kursk region has repeatedly reported cross-border drone attacks amid the continuing conflict.
