Google has integrated its Gemini AI technology into the Chrome browser, enhancing user experience with new functionalities. This move is seen as a direct response to Microsoft's integration of Copilot AI into its Edge browser. Users can access Gemini using the Alt+G shortcut in Windows. The integration of Gemini into Chrome allows users to ask questions and receive clarifications on complex information found on any webpage, as well as generate summaries of the content they are viewing. Google plans to expand Gemini's capabilities to work across multiple tabs, navigate websites, and automate tasks within the browser. These features will be available to subscribers of Google AI Pro and the new $250/mo Google Ultra, as well as participants in the Chrome Beta, Dev, and Canary programs. Google's approach to AI integration is also leveraging its extensive data on users to gain an advantage over competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. The company has introduced a feature called 'Gemini with personalization,' which uses user data to tailor responses, enhancing the personalization of AI interactions. This includes 'personal context,' allowing Gemini to pull relevant information from Gmail smart replies, Google Drive files, YouTube history, and Photos library. Google also announced 'Project Mariner,' which will enable 'Agent Mode' for tasks like searching for an apartment in Austin, to be introduced at Google I/O.
