Meta has introduced a direct messaging (DM) inbox feature on its Threads app, marking a move to further distinguish Threads from Instagram and enhance user engagement through private conversations. Launched two years ago, Threads is positioning itself as an alternative to platforms like X by enabling private messaging within the app, eliminating the need to switch to other apps for direct communication. In addition to this update, Meta is developing proactive artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots across its platforms, including Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads. These AI chatbots are designed to initiate conversations with users autonomously, remember past interactions, and maintain ongoing engagement. This approach represents a new strategy by Meta to increase user interaction, though it has raised concerns regarding user privacy and unsolicited messaging.
