The suspect, identified as Shameemah Jacobs, appeared briefly in the Bellville Magistrate's Court, with a bail hearing scheduled for July 10, 2025. The mother, Imaan Brandt-Sharmar, and the family have expressed relief and gratitude to the police for the safe recovery of the infant. Police noted that technology played a role in locating the baby within 48 hours. Child safety advocates have called for increased vigilance and community awareness following the incident. The state intends to oppose bail for the accused.
