Cracker Barrel Old Country Store scrapped its week-old corporate logo on Tuesday, reversing a rebrand that had removed the chain’s long-standing “Old Timer” mascot. In a statement, the Lebanon, Tennessee-based company said, “Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain,” adding that it had listened to customer feedback. The text-only logo, introduced on Aug. 18 as part of a broader effort to modernize the 55-year-old restaurant chain, triggered an immediate social-media backlash and criticism from some investors. On Monday the company apologized for how it communicated the change but indicated it would press ahead; by Tuesday morning President Donald Trump had urged the chain to restore the original design, calling the episode a “billion dollars’ worth of free publicity.” Cracker Barrel shares, which had fallen roughly 10–14 % since the redesign’s debut, rose more than 5 % after Trump’s post and climbed about 6 % in late trading once the company confirmed it would revert to the old logo. At Tuesday’s close the stock remained below its pre-rebrand level, leaving the company with a market capitalization near $1.2 billion. While Cracker Barrel said it will continue menu and store remodel initiatives, the swift U-turn underscores the sensitivity of legacy consumer brands to cultural pushback. Other companies, including Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light and American Eagle Outfitters, have also faced sharp market reactions in recent years when attempts to refresh their images collided with customer expectations.
