Amazon has struck a new distribution agreement with Comcast-owned NBCUniversal that will, for the first time, let U.S. Prime members subscribe to the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus service through Prime Video Channels. The multiyear pact also renews placement of the Peacock app on Amazon’s Fire TV devices and maintains access to Prime Video on Comcast’s Xfinity X1 set-top boxes. Prime customers can add Peacock Premium Plus for $16.99 a month or $169.99 a year. In addition, Amazon will continue to sell and rent Universal Pictures films on its transactional video store under the broader deal. NBCUniversal is betting that Amazon’s retail reach will accelerate growth for Peacock, which ended the second quarter with 41 million subscribers after narrowing its operating loss to $101 million from $348 million a year earlier. People familiar with the talks said the agreement could serve as a template for future third-party bundles as media companies look for wider distribution.
