Fox Casts Abigail Spencer in ‘Doc Martin’ Remake ‘Best Medicine’

Fox has cast Abigail Spencer to star opposite Josh Charles in “Best Medicine,” a one-hour medical comedy that adapts the long-running British dramedy “Doc Martin.” Spencer will play Louisa Glasson, a local schoolteacher whose initial clashes with Charles’s brusque Dr. Martin Best form the core of the series’ fish-out-of-water dynamic. Fox Entertainment Studios plans to begin production this summer in upstate New York, positioning the show for a mid-season launch during the network’s 2025-26 lineup. Liz Tuccillo executive-produces alongside Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrell, with Fox retaining full ownership and global distribution rights.
