British actor Owen Cooper, 15, became the youngest person ever nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. The recognition is for his performance as troubled teenager Jamie Miller in Netflix’s four-part drama “Adolescence.” Cooper’s nomination breaks a record that had stood since 1972, when 16-year-old Scott Jacoby was cited for the TV movie “That Certain Summer.” Should Cooper prevail at the 77th Emmys on 14 September, he would also become the youngest male winner of any acting Emmy. Released in March, “Adolescence” has amassed more than 540 million viewing hours, making it Netflix’s second-most-watched series and its top U.K. original. The show’s critical and commercial success has propelled Cooper from debut performer to awards-season focal point.
