U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday held a roughly 90-minute conference call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders to brief them on his just-concluded meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, an EU spokesperson said. Participants on the call included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the leaders of Italy, Finland and Poland. Trump first spoke one-on-one with Zelensky before bringing in the broader group, according to aides. The outreach follows Trump’s three-hour summit with Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. While both leaders described the talks as "very productive" and "constructive," they announced no immediate cease-fire or other concrete steps toward ending the war in Ukraine. In a subsequent television interview, Trump said next steps toward a settlement were "up to President Zelenskyy" and urged greater European involvement. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt added that further consultations with NATO partners are expected in the coming days.
